The death toll from a pub fire in Bangkok has risen to 34 after Apinya Sukthongsa, a 20-year-old woman, died from her injuries on Saturday, more than a week after the July 12 blaze that engulfed a beer restaurant in the Thai capital.
Most victims died from carbon monoxide and hydrogen cyanide inhalation, and many bodies were found near bathrooms, raising questions about obstructed emergency exits. Of the 70 injured, 13 remain in intensive care.
The government has ordered emergency safety inspections of entertainment venues nationwide, including in Bangkok and Pattaya. Around 1,000 establishments in Bangkok will be inspected in the coming weeks, and three bars have already been temporarily closed for failing to meet safety standards.
