The death toll from a fire at the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao bar in Bangkok has risen to 33, with more than 70 injured, authorities said, updating earlier reports of 27 fatalities after a blaze on 13 July.
Most victims died from smoke inhalation involving carbon monoxide and hydrogen cyanide poisoning, while six others succumbed to severe burns in hospital. Four members of the band Thotsakan — singer Nahathai Satjalert, singer Thitiwat Kaewkanha, keyboardist Pruttipong Phutmon, and drummer Nathaphat Thammanitha — were killed, while bandleader Athipat Wichan escaped with head and arm injuries.
Survivors reported that doors were locked and clear emergency exit signs were absent. Investigators suspect the bar used high-voltage electricity without a permit, which may have triggered the fire. Thai authorities have temporarily closed three bars for failing to meet safety standards.
