Dave Bautista has been cast as Kratos in Amazon's Prime Video adaptation of God of War, replacing Ryan Hurst, who departed the project after suffering a bicep injury while performing a stunt in late June, four months into production.
Bautista confirmed his casting by sharing an image of the character on Instagram. Filming will now restart from scratch when production resumes in mid-October in Vancouver, Canada, with the series retaining its original plan to shoot two consecutive seasons. Frederick E.O. Toye is set to direct the first two episodes.
The series follows the storyline of the original game, tracking Kratos and his ten-year-old son Atreus on a journey to scatter the ashes of his late wife, Faye.
