Former Anchorage Mayor Dan A. Sullivan endorsed incumbent Republican Senator Dan S. Sullivan for re-election on Tuesday, stepping into a race complicated by a same-named challenger and an ongoing grand jury investigation.
Dan J. Sullivan, a retired schoolteacher and former US Forest Service employee, advanced from the 18 August primary to join the four-candidate general election field scheduled for 3 November. The Alaska Supreme Court ruled last month that Dan J. Sullivan could remain on the ballot after the Republican Party unsuccessfully challenged his candidacy, arguing he entered the race to sow voter confusion. Dan J. Sullivan denied running at the behest of the Democratic party.
President Donald Trump weighed in on primary day, warning voters on social media to "vote for the real Dan Sullivan". Dan J. Sullivan received 2.4% of the primary vote, while Mary Peltola and Dan S. Sullivan secured the top two positions.
