A Dublin community sports pitch has been left unusable after a car was driven onto the field and set alight in the early hours of Tuesday, just days after the surface reopened from months of repairs. Gardaí responded to the scene at Crumlin GAA's Pearse Park grounds shortly after 2:30 a.m. on 28 July 2026.
The club's only adult pitch had been deemed playable only the previous week, and two matches were held before the attack. In a separate incident on Wednesday night, the park's entrance gates were rammed and damaged. Club spokesperson Ger Gavigan said the pitch is now unusable for full-sized games. Local TD Catherine Ardagh said repairs will close the pitch for several months.
Crumlin GAA, founded in 1970, fields hurling, football, and camogie teams across juvenile and adult grades. Local councillor Pat Dunne called for reinforced gates and accountability for those responsible.
