Key creditors are planning to dismantle battery manufacturer Varta, aiming to carve out its household battery division from the rest of the group. The ad-hoc creditor group — led by Deutsche Bank, RBC BlueBay, Blantyre and Whitebox — wants to separate the household battery business from the wider conglomerate, according to multiple reports.

The Ellwangen-based company, which produces household batteries, microbatteries for hearing aids and energy storage systems, employs roughly 3,260 people. A restructuring process has been under way since July 2024, and former Austrian majority owner Michael Tojner still holds a 50 percent stake in the business.

Baden-Württemberg's Economy Minister Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut has held intensive discussions with all parties involved as the state monitors the future of one of the region's prominent industrial employers.
