Connecticut Democrat John Larson loses primary to former Hartford mayor Luke Bronin

· Politics USA

Fourteen-term Democratic Representative John Larson of Connecticut lost his primary election Tuesday to former Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin, ending a decades-long congressional career. Bronin, 47, led Larson by nearly 20 percentage points with just over half the ballots counted, NBC News and CBS News projected.

The defeat makes the 78-year-old Larson the seventh Democratic House member to lose a primary this year, and the 10th incumbent overall to fall across both parties. Bronin raised just over $3 million during the primary campaign, outpacing Larson's $2.7 million, and secured the state party's endorsement.

Bronin will face Republican nominee Amy Chai in the November general election.
