Colombia condemns death threats against Campaz after World Cup exit

· Sports COLCHEARG

The Colombian Football Federation has publicly condemned death threats directed at national team player Jáminton Campaz and his family following Colombia's elimination from the World Cup, and has urged the attorney general's office to open an investigation.

The backlash erupted after Campaz missed a decisive chance in the 114th minute of extra time during Colombia's round-of-16 match against Switzerland in Vancouver on July 7. The game ended goalless and Colombia lost 4-3 on penalties. Campaz, who plays for Argentine club Rosario Central, has chosen not to return home for security reasons and released an emotional statement on Instagram.

The federation said it is seeking to accelerate the probe to ensure the safety of the player and his relatives.
