The Court of Arbitration for Sport will hear Senegal's appeal to reclaim the Africa Cup of Nations title on October 8, the court announced, after the West African nation was stripped of its victory over Morocco. The hearing will be held behind closed doors at CAS headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Senegal lodged its appeal on 25 March seeking reinstatement as tournament winners after the Confederation of African Football's appeal committee ruled in March that Senegal had defaulted the final. CAF overturned the on-field result and declared Morocco the winner with a 3–0 scoreline.
The dispute stems from the January 18 final in Rabat, where Senegal players walked off the pitch in protest after Morocco was awarded a stoppage-time penalty. Senegal had won the match 1–0 after extra time through a goal by Pape Alassane Gueye. CAF and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation did not agree to expedite the proceedings.
