Senegalese Football Federation president Abdoulaye Fall said Dr. Fediore, the team doctor for a decade, trained as a gynecologist and lacked the qualifications to treat elite athletes. The Senegalese Sports Medicine Association rejected the accusations as baseless, insisting Fediore holds diplomas in sports medicine and sports biology. The tournament campaign was plagued by logistical failures: senior players Sadio Mané and Kalidou Koulibaly criticized inadequate hotel facilities during the team's U.S.-based training camp, and the absence of a team chef forced players to order meals through delivery apps.
Senegal had lost its opening two group matches against France and Norway before advancing to the knockout rounds. President Bassirou Diomaye Faye had personally intervened to persuade Thiaw to participate in the tournament.
