Bunny Levine, a prolific character actress who transitioned to Hollywood after a long career as a school librarian, has died at 97. Levine died on Aug. 20 at her home in Tarzana, California, where police said the death appeared to be from natural causes. Her manager confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter.
Born in East Orange, New Jersey, in 1928, Levine worked in school libraries for more than two decades before pursuing acting in her 60s. She made her screen debut in the 1988 horror comedy Slime City and later appeared in Cadillac Man alongside Robin Williams. Her extensive television credits included Gilmore Girls, Shameless, Everybody Loves Raymond, and Law & Order, while film appearances spanned La La Land, three Adam Sandler comedies, and the 2024 feature Thelma.
Levine remained active into her final years, appearing in the 2026 indie horror thriller The Cure and the final season of The Upshaws.
