A provincial court in Badajoz has sentenced David Sánchez Pérez-Castejón, the brother of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, to nine years of disqualification from public office for administrative prevarication. The court found him guilty as a necessary collaborator in the offence, barring him from holding public employment and from standing for election. The sentence also strips him of passive suffrage rights for the full term.
Miguel Ángel Gallardo, former president of the Badajoz provincial council and ex-leader of the PSOE in Extremadura, received a harsher penalty. He was found guilty of two counts of administrative prevarication linked to the hiring of Sánchez Pérez-Castejón and another individual, Luis Carrero, earning an 18-year disqualification from public office.
The case centres on irregularities in hiring procedures at the public body in 2017, when Gallardo led the provincial authority.
