A homemade fake police uniform worn by Anders Behring Breivik during the 2011 terrorist attacks on Utøya and in Oslo's government quarter is being exhibited for the first time at the newly built 22 July Centre, which opened Wednesday — exactly 15 years after the massacre.
Relatives and survivors were given a private preview of the exhibitions ahead of the public opening. Vanessa Svebakk Bøhn, whose 14-year-old daughter Sharidyn was the youngest victim on Utøya, reacted with shock at the uniform's inclusion and criticised the decision. Survivor Kristian Lundø Laursen, who was 18 at the time of the attack, said displaying the uniform was the right call. Merete Stamneshagen, chair of the National Support Group after 22 July, said information about the exhibition had been handled well.
The centre defended the display, saying the uniform helps convey what happened. Breivik was sentenced to 21 years of preventive detention, with possible release in 2032.
