Baez tops Kecmanovic as seeds stumble in Kitzbühel first round

Sebastian Baez secured his first victory over Miomir Kecmanovic in four career meetings, edging past the Serb 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in the opening round of the Generali Open on Tuesday. The Argentine needed one hour and 49 minutes to close out the contest, converting three of 13 break points.

Fifth-seeded Ignacio Buse eliminated Vit Kopriva 5-7, 7-6, 1-6 in a match lasting two hours and 40 minutes, leaving the Czech player still searching for his first main-draw win at the Austrian clay-court event. Elsewhere, Jan-Lennard Struff rallied past Aleksandr Shevchenko 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-4, while Marco Trungelliti swept aside eighth-seeded Juan Manuel Cerundolo 6-2, 6-1.

Home favourite Sebastian Ofner sufferied his fourth consecutive first-round exit in Kitzbühel, falling to Slovakia's Alex Molcan 4-6, 4-6 in just 68 minutes. Quentin Halys also advanced, defeating Laslo Djere 7-6(4), 6-4.
