Third-seeded Anders Antonsen suffered a stunning first-round collapse at the China Open, losing 21-15, 17-21, 20-22 to world number 18 Weng Hongyang after surrendering a commanding third-set lead.
The world number three had led 12-4 in the decider and held three match points at 20-17 but lost five consecutive points to hand the Chinese player an unlikely victory. The defeat marks an early exit for one of the tournament favourites.
In mixed doubles action, Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Bøje advanced with a straight-sets win over a Malaysian pair.
