AfD leader Chrupalla dismisses climate science and calls to abolish postal voting ahead of state election

Alternative for Germany co-leader Tino Chrupalla has dismissed human-caused climate change as marginal and called for the abolition of postal voting, alleging manipulation risks in nursing homes, as his party campaigns ahead of Saxony-Anhalt's 6 September election.

Chrupalla described this year's heatwave as a "completely normal summer" and labelled climate protection a secondary issue, despite Copernicus data showing record temperatures across western Europe and the Robert Koch Institute reporting more than 14,000 heat-related deaths since the start of the year. He claimed postal ballots lack adequate oversight, though just 1.6 percent of Saxony-Anhalt's eligible voters live in care homes.

The AfD, classified as confirmed far-right in Saxony-Anhalt since 2023, reached 41 percent in a July state poll. Chrupalla said the party would extend coalition overtures to all rivals after the vote.
