Karoline Leavitt will step down as White House press secretary at the end of August, citing the demands of raising two young children while holding one of the administration's most visible roles. President Donald Trump confirmed the departure on Truth Social, saying Leavitt will transition to become one of his top outside advisors.
Leavitt, who became the youngest-ever White House press secretary when she took the post at age 27 in January 2025, wrote on X that she could not be the best mother to her two children while devoting the time the position requires. She gave birth to her second child, a daughter, in May and returned from maternity leave last month.
In her new role, Leavitt will advise Trump ahead of the midterm elections on November 3, remaining an influential voice within the Republican Party. She previously served as press secretary for Trump's 2024 presidential campaign.
