Warren Buffett drops Gates Foundation from annual stock gifts for first time since 2006

· Business USA

Warren Buffett has excluded the Gates Foundation from his midyear charitable donations for the first time in two decades, directing roughly $6 billion in Berkshire Hathaway stock to four family foundations instead.

The 95-year-old billionaire confirmed on July 14, 2026, that he has stopped giving to the Gates Foundation, marking a sharp break with a partnership that since 2006 has channeled more than $47 billion in Berkshire shares to the charity. Buffett told associates in March he would not resume discussions with Bill Gates until questions surrounding Gates's past contacts with Jeffrey Epstein were resolved.

This year's gifts consist of 9 million Class B shares to the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation and 1 million shares each to the Sherwood, Howard G. Buffett, and NoVo foundations, entities overseen by his three children. Buffett has pledged to donate his entire remaining Berkshire stake to the four family foundations by December 31, 2034.
