Volkswagen has replaced mechanical mowers with a flock of 100 Wielkopolska-breed sheep to manage vegetation at its Września solar farm in western Poland, blending renewable energy generation with low-impact land stewardship.
The 27-hectare site houses more than 31,000 panels with a combined capacity of 18.3 megawatts, covering roughly a quarter of the nearby plant's annual electricity demand. The flock, introduced in April, will graze on the grounds through autumn. Quanta Energy is responsible for the park's construction and operation.
Beyond livestock maintenance, the agrivoltaics project has drawn scientific attention: researchers from the Poznań University of Life Sciences are monitoring the sheep's impact on biodiversity and soil quality at the site.
