Venezuelan opposition leaders María Corina Machado and Edmundo González Urrutia will not take part in U.S.-backed political dialogue with the interim administration of Delcy Rodríguez scheduled to begin on 1 August 2026. The pair stated they will not be involved in the design, development, or operation of the talks and confirmed they are not part of meetings between pro-government sectors and the 2015 National Assembly.
Machado and González said they would evaluate any dialogue based on concrete, verifiable results, including the restoration of democratic institutions, the release of all political prisoners, credible guarantees for all participants, a timely presidential election timetable, and full respect for popular sovereignty. They added that they would not obstruct any initiative producing real progress for the country.
The interim government, led by Rodríguez since a U.S. military operation ousted former President Nicolás Maduro in January, announced the talks in mid-July alongside former opposition lawmakers.
