Utah regulators have revoked the license of Provo Canyon School's Springville campus, ordering the troubled youth residential facility to terminate all services by August 6. The state cited multiple noncompliance issues including unnecessary restraint, aggressive physical contact, neglect of care, and failures to verify employee background checks. The school has 15 days to challenge the decision, and owners may not reapply for a new license for five years.
The revocation follows temporary restrictions imposed in May and again in June on the school's separate boys' campus in Provo, after staff in both cases failed to seek immediate medical care for seriously injured students and did not intervene during a fight.
The school has faced intensified scrutiny since celebrity Paris Hilton alleged she was abused there in the late 1990s, describing beatings, forced medication, and solitary confinement without clothing.
