Ukraine has installed 97 onshore wind turbines between 2023 and 2025, far outpacing Denmark's 22 over the same period, prompting questions to Danish Climate and Energy Minister Samira Nawa about the country's deployment pace. Nawa responded to a parliamentary inquiry by noting that Ukraine's landmass is roughly 14 times the size of Denmark, defending the comparative figures. Renewable energy accounted for about 80 percent of Denmark's total electricity supply in 2024.
The installations come as Ukraine rebuilds an energy grid battered by Russian strikes since 2022. Copenhagen has maintained an energy cooperation with Kyiv since 2014.
Ukraine is also sourcing second-hand wind turbines from the Netherlands, where 700 to 800 older units are being decommissioned in coming years. The refurbished turbines remain operable for another 15 to 20 years, and the first units are ready for transport to southern Ukraine.
