British lawmaker Patrick Spencer is standing trial at Southwark Crown Court over allegations that he groped two women at a London private members' club nearly three years ago.
Spencer, 38, the MP for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich, denies two counts of sexual assault stemming from an incident at the Groucho Club in Soho on 12 August 2023. The alleged assaults took place after a musical performance while guests were drinking in the bar. Spencer was identified through his Parliament website profile photo after staff matched CCTV footage to the club's sign-in register.
Spencer was elected as a Conservative MP in July 2024 while the investigation was still ongoing. The Metropolitan Police failed to progress the case in 2023, and the alleged victims were not asked for statements until early 2025. Spencer was questioned by police in March 2025 and had the Conservative whip withdrawn later that year. He now sits as an independent member of Parliament.
