Britain's National Energy System Operator issued an electricity margin notice for Thursday evening, the third such alert this year, as extreme temperatures strain generation capacity across Europe. The warning runs from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Temperatures are expected to widely exceed 30C across the UK, with parts of southern England possibly reaching 36C. The UK set a provisional June record of 37.7C at Lingwood, Norfolk, on 27 June, surpassing the previous mark of 35.6C from 1976. EDF warned that output could be curtailed at up to five French nuclear plants as river water temperatures rise.

Western Europe is enduring its third heatwave in six weeks. Health and fire warnings have been issued across the region, where wildfires have already burned 35,400 hectares in France and 55,128 hectares in Spain, according to the European Forest Fire Information System. Neso's two prior power callouts in June were both cancelled ahead of time.
