Uber launches €12.7 billion takeover bid for Delivery Hero

Uber has launched a public takeover offer for German food-delivery company Delivery Hero, valuing the Berlin-based group at approximately €12.7 billion. The all-cash bid of €41.50 per share was confirmed by both companies on Thursday and represents a significant premium over an indicative €33-per-share approach Uber made in late May.

The deal strengthens Uber's position in the global food-delivery market outside the United States, where it competes with rivals including DoorDash. Major shareholder Prosus has agreed to sell its roughly 17% stake, while Delivery Hero's board has unanimously backed the transaction. Uber already controls just under 37% of Delivery Hero through existing shares and derivatives.

The offer is conditional on acceptance by a majority of shareholders and regulatory approval. Uber has committed to maintaining Delivery Hero's Berlin headquarters and workforce until 2029. Closing is expected in the second half of 2027.
