Irish rock band U2 released a surprise new single, 'Street of Dreams', on Tuesday, marking the first new material from a studio album in nine years. The track, produced by Jacknife Lee and released on Island Records, serves as the lead single from an as-yet-untitled album expected later in 2026. The group, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, last released a studio album of original songs in 2017.
The accompanying music video was filmed in May in Mexico City, where the band attended the finals of the 2026 Street Child World Cup at Parque Ecológico Lago de Texcoco. A shoot near Plaza Santo Domingo was disrupted by heavy rain and thunder that knocked out a generator, prompting a local family to invite the band onto their apartment balcony to complete filming.
Earlier in 2026, the band issued an independent six-track EP, 'Days of Ash', followed by a second EP, 'Easter Lily,' on Good Friday.
