Two-time Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas has signed a three-year contract with London City Lionesses on a free transfer, the Women's Super League club confirmed on Wednesday.
Putellas, 32, was unveiled alongside owner Michele Kang at an event in New York City after agreeing personal terms in early June. The midfielder chose London City over Boston Legacy, according to BBC Sport, and is considered favourite to win a third Ballon d'Or in October.
She departs Barcelona after 14 years and 38 trophies, having captained the club to a fourth Champions League title in her final season and left as a club-record goalscorer with more than 230 goals. London City, who finished sixth in the WSL last season, have also secured Mary Earps, Janni Thomsen, and Nicole Anyomi this summer.
