A strong majority of Germans believe major U.S. technology corporations wield excessive influence, with concerns centered on national dependence, market dominance, and personal privacy, according to a new survey.
Sixty-six percent of respondents said companies such as Amazon, Google, Meta, and Apple have become too powerful, while 18 percent disagreed and 17 percent remained undecided. Among those alarmed, 63 percent cited growing German dependence on the United States as their primary concern. Fifty-nine percent accused the firms of building monopoly-like structures, and 55 percent pointed to risks to data protection and privacy.
YouGov conducted the poll on behalf of Welt am Sonntag, surveying 2,411 people between July 10 and 13.
