Two Danish men charged with violating Russia trade sanctions

Danish authorities have arrested and charged two men with breaching trade sanctions imposed on Russia, following a lengthy intelligence investigation, the country's National Unit for Special Crime and the Danish Security and Intelligence Service announced Wednesday.

The suspects, aged 59 and 33 from northern Jutland, were detained in morning raids in and around Aalborg. Officers carried out searches of multiple properties linked to the pair before releasing them after questioning. The intelligence service assisted the operation and has warned that Russia is actively seeking to acquire products and technology through Denmark.

The case underscores growing enforcement pressure over sanctions compliance. In April, the special crime unit disclosed it was handling 20 active investigations into suspected violations of sanctions against Russia and Belarus. Last October, engineering firm Alfa Laval was fined 100,000 kroner for selling centrifuge spare parts worth over 500,000 kroner to a Russian sister company.
