U.S. President Donald Trump is set to deliver a rare primetime address from the White House on Thursday evening, focusing on his unfounded claims about the 2020 election and alleged Chinese interference in U.S. voting systems. The speech, scheduled for 9 p.m. Eastern Time, comes three and a half months before the November midterm elections and is expected to be attended by the heads of the CIA, FBI, ODNI, and DHS.
Trump is expected to repeat false assertions that he won the 2020 election and promote the SAVE America Act, which would require photo identification to vote and proof of citizenship to register. He has refused to sign other legislation until the bill passes. The president has also cited Spencer Pratt's loss in the Los Angeles mayoral race in June as evidence of fraud, and alleged that China compromised U.S. voter data without the CIA sharing that intelligence with him.
A July YouGov poll found that more than 57 percent of U.S. voters disapprove of Trump's performance in his second term. The FBI raided a Georgia elections office in January to seize 2020 election materials, and Bill Pulte was named acting director of national intelligence in May.
