Trump administration subpoenas New York Times reporters over Air Force One coverage

· Politics USA

The Trump administration issued subpoenas on July 10 to several New York Times journalists, demanding they testify before a federal grand jury in Manhattan on July 15 over the paper's reporting on national security matters.

Federal agents delivered subpoenas to some reporters at their homes, according to multiple reports. The recipients include reporters and editors Julian Barnes, Eric Lipton, Tyler Pager, and Eric Schmitt. The subpoenas, issued by Clayton, a federal prosecutor in New York and Trump's nominee for director of national intelligence, allege potential violations of federal criminal law but provided no specific details. The subpoenas follow Times reporting that the new Air Force One, donated by Qatar, lacks antimissile defenses. White House spokesman Steven Chung denied any security shortcomings on the aircraft.

In June, the administration issued and later withdrew subpoenas to Wall Street Journal and Washington Post reporters over coverage of planned strikes on Iran and Venezuela.
