A total solar eclipse visible across Spain on Wednesday is drawing more than 446,000 visitors and is expected to contribute a net 347.6 million euros to the Spanish economy, the first such event in the country in a century. Accommodation searches in prime viewing areas surged more than 500%, with Soria seeing a 522% jump for stays on 12–13 August, while hotel prices have doubled in A Coruña and risen 59% in Bilbao.
Demand has strained transport and hospitality infrastructure. Hotel bookings rose 17.8% compared to August 2025, campsites in viewing zones are fully booked, and airline seat capacity is up 7.9% week-on-year, with Renfe offering over one million seats across 3,038 long-distance trains between 7 and 16 August.
Telecoms operators Telefónica, Vodafone, and MasOrange are reinforcing mobile coverage at 700 sites nationwide. Meanwhile, Iberia has scheduled a special flight from Madrid to view the eclipse from the air, as the Perseid meteor shower coincides with the event.
