A suspect was taken into custody Monday morning after an incendiary device exploded outside the federal building at 26 Federal Plaza in lower Manhattan, an address that houses the FBI and several immigration agencies. Reports on casualties varied, with as many as four people suffering minor, non-life-threatening injuries, while other accounts indicated three people were hurt, two requiring hospital treatment.
The device was fireworks packed into a wagon bearing a sign reading "ICE out of our streets", and preliminary information suggested the explosives were placed in a garbage can. The suspect was found carrying an airsoft rifle, carbon dioxide cartridges, halogen lighting, and a helmet. Authorities described the incident as an anti-ICE attack.
The FBI's New York joint terrorism taskforce is investigating the explosion, which one Italian report stated caused no injuries.
