Spain claimed a second consecutive SailGP victory on Sunday, winning the Portsmouth final after starting last in the decisive race. The Spanish crew, led by 49er Olympic champion Diego Botin, edged out Sweden, Canada, and Switzerland in the four-team final to secure their second straight event win following Halifax.
The victory tightened the championship standings, with Australia retaining the overall lead on 66 points ahead of Spain on 54 and Sweden's Team Artemis on 47. Spain now sits just 12 points off the leaders heading into the final rounds.
For the Germany SailGP Team, the weekend proved frustrating. After a near-capsize on Saturday effectively ended their final hopes, the German crew managed a race win on Sunday but finished 10th overall among 13 teams, earning just one championship point. The season continues on 22-23 August in Sassnitz on the island of Rügen.
