Bonnie Tyler, the Welsh singer whose powerful, husky voice defined the 1980s power ballad “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” has died at the age of 75. She passed away on 8 July 2026 in a hospital in Portugal, where she had been receiving treatment.

Tyler had been hospitalised since late April and was placed into an induced coma in May following emergency intestinal surgery for a perforation. Though she regained consciousness in mid-June, her condition remained serious and she was kept in intensive care until her death, a Spanish outlet reported.

Tyler represented the United Kingdom at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest, finishing in 19th place. Her signature hit, co-written by Jim Steinman, surpassed one billion streams on Spotify earlier in 2026. Her final studio album was released in 2019.
