Premier League clubs posted combined pre-tax losses of £948 million in the 2024-25 season, a sevenfold increase from £135 million the previous campaign, even as total revenue climbed to a record £6.8 billion. Net debt across the division rose to £3.6 billion.

Losses were also steep elsewhere in Europe. French Ligue 1 clubs saw cumulative pre-tax losses more than double, from €181 million to €456 million. In England's second tier, Championship clubs recorded £355 million in losses as revenue fell 2% to £942 million, with only three sides turning a profit.

Despite mounting losses at club level, the broader European football market grew 6% to €40.2 billion in 2024-25, underscoring the gap between rising commercial income and escalating club expenditures.
