A partial solar eclipse will sweep across central Europe on Wednesday, with the moon covering up to 90 percent of the sun across Germany as the event coincides with the peak of the annual Perseid meteor shower. The eclipse begins around 19:15 local time in Berlin and the Czech Republic, reaching maximum coverage of roughly 85 percent near 20:10 before ending at sunset. Totality will be visible only from a corridor stretching across parts of Spain, Iceland, and Greenland. The German Weather Service forecasts mostly clear skies across the region, while the Perseids are expected to produce up to 100 meteors per hour between 23:00 and 04:00. The German Federal Office for Radiation Protection warns viewers to use only certified eclipse glasses meeting the DIN EN ISO 12312-2:2015 standard, cautioning that improvised filters and optical devices pose severe eye-damage risks. Germany will not see another total eclipse until September 2081.
