Palm Beach airport renamed for Donald Trump as new FAA code takes effect

· Politics USA

Palm Beach International Airport was renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport on Wednesday, following legislation passed by the Florida Legislature in February and signed by Governor Ron DeSantis in March. The Federal Aviation Administration changed the airport's locational identifier from PBI to DJT effective immediately, though the IATA code will not update until August 18 after a request from major airlines.

The name change carries an estimated $5.5 million price tag for new signage, systems updates, and staff uniforms. Palm Beach County commissioners approved a licensing agreement in May permitting use of Trump's name, image, and likeness in promotional materials subject to Trump Organization approval.

DTTM Operations LLC filed three trademark applications in February covering airport services and merchandise. While the licensing deal prohibits Trump from receiving royalties on merchandise sold at the airport, trademark attorney Josh Gerben noted a potential loophole allowing unrestricted sales off airport premises.
