Domov Mikasa, the sole residential facility in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic providing care for people with autism spectrum disorders and challenging behaviour, will shut down in mid-September 2026 after running out of money. The Ostrava-based home, which has been operating for nearly three years with eight fully occupied beds, is short approximately 3.5 million Czech koruna and plans to hand written termination notices to clients' representatives on Friday.
The organisation received less funding than it requested from both municipal and regional authorities. It obtained 3.8 million koruna from the city of Ostrava against a 4.2 million request, and under 7.5 million from the region against a 10.6 million ask. Clients contribute roughly 3.3 million koruna toward operations.
Director Michal Panáček said the home refuses the region’s advice to scale services to match available funds. Deputy Governor Stanislav Kopecký said additional grant funding could still be approved by the regional assembly in September.
