Lara Gut-Behrami, the Swiss Olympic and double world champion, has retired from alpine skiing with immediate effect, ending a decorated career that included 48 World Cup victories and two overall titles.
The 35-year-old announced her decision to Swiss media on Wednesday, saying she had concluded after careful consideration that she would not return to the racecourse. Gut-Behrami suffered a severe knee injury during a training crash in November 2025, sustaining tears to her anterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament, and meniscus. The injury ultimately derailed her hopes of competing at the 2027 home World Championships in Crans-Montana, despite Swiss-Ski having entered her for the upcoming season only months ago.
Gut-Behrami won Super-G gold at the 2022 Beijing Olympics and claimed two world titles in Cortina d'Ampezzo in 2021. She secured the overall World Cup crystal globe twice, in 2015–16 and 2023–24, along with seven discipline titles, including six Super-G crowns.
