Ohio senator calls for congressman son-in-law to quit over abuse allegations

· Politics USA

Republican Senator Bernie Moreno of Ohio publicly demanded on Sunday that his former son-in-law, Representative Max Miller, step down from Congress amid allegations of domestic and child abuse. Moreno posted on X that Miller "fails" basic character standards for elected office and needs professional psychological help.

Miller, who represents a solidly Republican district, denied the allegations in a Sunday livestream and vowed to remain in his re-election race ahead of Wednesday's ballot replacement deadline. The congressman faced a court petition Thursday from his ex-wife Emily Moreno seeking a restraining order, with court filings detailing accusations including throwing hot water, holding a gun to her head, and fracturing their toddler daughter's collarbone.

Democratic challenger Brian Poindexter said no one credibly accused of such acts belongs in office. Miller's campaign cited continued joint custody as evidence the claims lack merit.
