Economic growth across the OECD area accelerated to 0.5% in the second quarter of 2026, up from 0.4% in the prior three months and marking the strongest quarterly expansion since the third quarter of 2025. The year-on-year rate also picked up to 2.3% from 1.7%.
Among the 30 OECD members with available data, 27 posted growth while Austria, Belgium and Chile stalled. Ireland recorded the fastest quarterly pace at 3.9%, followed by Israel at 3.6%. Spain expanded 0.7%, up from 0.6%.
Growth among G7 nations, however, slowed to 0.3% from 0.4%. The United States and the United Kingdom each grew 0.4%, while Germany, Italy and Japan all decelerated. Canada was a notable exception, surging to 0.8% after flatlining in the first quarter, and France returned to growth at 0.2% following a 0.1% contraction.
