North Korean state media have recommended dog meat soup and ginseng chicken broth to help citizens cope with the country's highest recorded temperature of 36.7 degrees Celsius, registered on Thursday.
The ruling party newspaper Rodong Sinmun quoted a Pyongyang doctor advising cooling foods alongside "nutritious" options such as dog-meat soup, while the Korean Central News Agency praised samgyetang, a chicken soup stuffed with glutinous rice and ginseng. State television also showed crowds at beaches in the Wonsan Kalma coastal tourist zone. The propaganda outlet revisited past stories of leader Kim Jong Un enduring extreme heat during on-site inspections.
North Korea has released no data on heat-related casualties. Neighbouring South Korea has reported more than 20 heat-linked deaths, where temperatures reached a record 42.5 degrees Celsius last Sunday.
