North Korea has adopted measures to expand its nuclear arsenal both quantitatively and qualitatively as leader Kim Jong Un pushes a broad military modernisation drive. The decisions came during an expanded meeting of the Workers' Party's Central Military Commission held on Wednesday, state media reported.
The session laid out plans to upgrade the technical infrastructure of operational systems, standardise and modernise military bases, and expand the role of the Reconnaissance General Bureau to boost intelligence-gathering capabilities. Kim also called for the construction of modern naval bases and increased shipyard capacity to match what he described as a significant shift in the navy's role.
The announcements, carried by state news agency KCNA on Thursday, signal continued efforts to strengthen Pyongyang's strategic posture across conventional and nuclear domains.
