Lando Norris will serve a 10-place grid penalty at the Belgian Grand Prix on 18 July after McLaren fitted a fourth control electronics unit to his car, exceeding the season's permitted allocation of three. The switch is tied to an update the team is introducing at Spa-Francorchamps, and the new unit is expected to remain in use for the remainder of the season.
Norris has suffered repeated electronics failures throughout the campaign. Terminal issues struck at the Chinese Grand Prix in March and the Monaco Grand Prix in May, with additional problems recorded at the Japanese Grand Prix in April.
McLaren is also introducing a new rear wing at Spa that reverts to a conventional opening mechanism in place of the flip-over design used previously. Norris currently sits fifth in the drivers' championship standings, 82 points behind leader Kimi Antonelli.
