Muhammad and Olivia were the most popular baby names in England and Wales in 2025, with Muhammad leading the boys' list for the third consecutive year and Olivia holding the top girls' spot for a decade, the Office for National Statistics reported.
There were 585,396 live births across England and Wales last year. Muhammad was given to 5,957 boys — rising above 9,000 when spelling variants are included — and led every month of 2025. Olivia went to 2,386 girls. Noah and Leo followed Muhammad; Lily and Amelia trailed Olivia. Top 10 names accounted for 9.1% of all births.
Royal and political names showed mixed fortunes: William climbed to 25th and Camilla surged from 4 to 66 registrations, while Andrew fell to a record low of 127. New entrants to the top 100 included Eliana, Gracie, Alba, and Lilah for girls and Carter, Ruben, Stanley, and Vincent for boys.
