Mozambican President Daniel Chapo opened a four-day official visit to Portugal on Monday, framing the trip around a push for deeper economic cooperation and Portuguese investment in his country's natural resources, agriculture, tourism, and energy sectors.
Delivering a keynote address at the ninth EurAfrican Forum in Carcavelos on Wednesday, Chapo called for bilateral ties focused on tangible commercial results. He invited Portuguese businesses to invest in Mozambique, noting that roughly 1,100 Portuguese companies already operate there. A €500 million credit line is expected to be operationalised soon to support such investment.
Chapo, accompanied by Foreign Minister Maria Manuela dos Santos Lucas and Transport Minister João Jorge Matlombe, is scheduled to meet Portuguese President António José Seguro and Prime Minister Luís Montenegro. The forum, running under the theme "Africa Rising: Prosperity through Global Cooperation," drew attention to the communities linking the two nations — some 13,000 Mozambicans in Portugal and 40,000 Portuguese in Mozambique.
