The Metropolitan Police have opened a formal investigation into donations made to Robert Jenrick's 2024 Conservative leadership campaign following a referral from the Electoral Commission in January 2026. The probe centres on allegations that £37,500 in donations originated from a foreign source, potentially breaching UK electoral rules that prohibit overseas funding of political campaigns.
The Electoral Commission examined claims that the money, part of a larger sum from a British-registered company called The Spott Fitness, was ultimately sourced from US businessman Gary Klopfenstein via Innovyz USA. Kevin Hollinrake, chair of the Conservative Party, said the Electoral Commission was right to pass the matter to authorities.
Jenrick has denied the allegations as entirely false, saying he had no contact with police and had done nothing wrong. He told LBC the Conservative Party had introduced the donor and verified his legitimacy.
