Meta unveiled Muse Code, its first agentic programming tool, alongside the Muse Spark 1.2 model on Wednesday, stepping up its push into developer-focused artificial intelligence. The launch positions Meta against established coding agents including Anthropic's Claude Code, OpenAI's Codex, and Cursor, with the company touting competitive pricing through contributor and pay-as-you-go plans.
Muse Code pairs with Muse Spark 1.2, which Meta compares to Anthropic's Opus 5, GPT 5.6 Terra, Gemini 3.6 Flash, and Grok 4.5. The initiatives fall under Meta Superintelligence Labs, led by former Scale AI chief Alexandr Wang, who joined as chief AI officer in a $14.3 billion acquihire. Meta also began accepting zero-data retention requests from enterprise clients.
The rollout comes as Meta raised its capital expenditure forecast to as much as $145 billion, even as its stock has declined more than 20 percent over the past year. The company derives roughly 98 percent of revenue from online advertising. Separately, SpaceX is moving to acquire Cursor, one of Meta's new competitors.
