Senator Mitch McConnell continues to recover in hospital more than three weeks after being admitted on June 14, his office confirmed Tuesday, as Republican colleagues pushed back against speculation about his condition.
Emergency dispatch records show that paramedics performed CPR for a cardiac arrest at McConnell's address on the day of his admission. His office has offered limited detail beyond saying he is recovering and working with staff.
Activist Laura Loomer claimed Monday that a White House source had described McConnell as "brain dead," an assertion with no corroboration from official channels. Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Senator John Barrasso each spoke with McConnell by phone in recent days, with Thune discussing national security matters. Political commentator Scott Jennings also spoke with the senator Tuesday.
McConnell, who attended a late-May meeting with acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, announced in 2025 that he plans to retire in early 2027.
